Canoe Plants
When Polynesians sailed their double-hulled canoes across the Pacific Ocean over 1500 years ago, they carried with them about 24 of the most versatile and valuable plants to help them survive in new lands far away. These resilient plants provided the food, medicine and materials needed to endure long journeys at sea and then grow anew to support future generations. Today, these plants are still revered as the foundational elements of a sustainable Hawaiian garden.
